Set in 22nd century Earth, nearly 100 years after the 3rd World War, the Demon Archives tells the story of the survivors’ struggle to rebuild civilization. In the first book we’ll meet the members of Minerva, a high tech organization that survived the Dread Times and established a beacon of hope in a dreary wasteland. We will follow our main character Tenzin as he struggles with loss and guides us in a discovery of what it means to be human.
The Demon Archives had its beginning in the darkly creative corners of Nick Sharp’s brain. Unformed thoughts and ideas about the singularity and a post-apocalyptic world mixed and merged, unable to escape. Frustrated at his inability to express his story in text or art, Nick invited his brother Dan to help him transfer the world he had created in his mind to the real world. Beginning in early August of 2011, they tried their hands at writing a short story in the world. The results were merely OK. But, their rough stories did serve the important purpose of being the beginnings of a much better story.
Over the next 4 months Nick and Dan outlined the details of their new world, and began forming the basics of a story to introduce it. Come January 2012, when Dan enrolled in a Creative Writing: Science Fiction class taught by Brandon Sanderson, he was ready to begin writing the story. The one real assignment in the class was to write 50,000 words of a novel, on which they would get comments and feedback from peers and from Sanderson himself, so Dan was excited to try to write the first novel of the Daemon Archives.
Needless to say, it was a lot of fun. Even though Dan was preparing for medical school at the time (and is in medical school now), it was great to be creative in a very different way. Fairly early on, his writing group and Dan himself realized that the story would best be told as a graphic novel, something that Nick had wanted to do anyways, so they began to contact comic artists. They hosted a competition in order to select two artists (2 instead of just 1 for reasons that would spoil the story now) in first quarter of 2012, and began planning and production of our comic by the beginning of summer. The inclusions of Sebastian Piriz and Matias Basla as the core artists for the project was a huge win.
