Chapter 1: Page 4 - Suiting Up

Yet another amazing page by Seba. This one I really like because it gives you the first glimpse of one of the central technologies of our story, and that is powered military body armor. Now the cover is starting to make sense for people I bet, and all Nick’s rambling posts about Powered Armor in the science section are making sense. Here we also meet Rick for the first time… he’s a keeper so remember his face.

As always thank you for reading and we look forward to your feedback or to your loving social Likes/Pluses/Tweets.

Take Care, and stay tuned.

Tenzin: [thoughts] The west and south are protected by the river and the mountain peaks, so any attack would likely come from the north, across the farmland. That gives us plenty of visibility. Jorge’s snipers could take position there or there and hold any approaching infantry.

Tenzin: [thoughts] If they bring any armored vehicles they’ll have to follow the road. Viktor’s pentad could block them while Cowboy and his men strike from behind. It’s unlikely that there will be any aerial assault, but HQ should be able to get a couple of gunnies out there in just a couple of minutes. We’d just have to take refuge in the town bunker and wait.

Rick: “How’s the armor feel, sir? I lined the suit with some padding I developed and installed a new cooling system like you asked.”
Tenzin: ”Hmm? Oh, right. Thanks, Randy.”
Rick: [mumbles] “It’s Rick…”

Viktor: ”Ho, Tenzin! Worrying yourself to death over another easy mission I see?”

Viktor: ”Your digital mistress commanded me to make sure you eat something. Have a roll.”
Tenzin: [chuckles] ”Thanks Viktor. I owe you one.”

I really like the level of detail (the words on the screen, etc). I’m not 100% sure I get the screen he’s using though-is it supposed to be curved? Is that part of the wall or just a projection? It looks like the wires from his suit go through, making me think it’s a projection…but why would a projection be curved like that? Maybe I’m just missing something…

It is indeed a curved holographic projection… that is one of the science pieces that is hardest to find current technology to compare it to. Perhaps the easiest way to understand it is that the art is attempting to show how the projection would appear to Tenzin. That’s a bit hard to do from an art perspective but I think that Seba nailed it. There are several science attempts at this tech that Nick will highlight later in the tech section, but the main one Nick likes best is this:

Lasers and prisms embedded in the walls could be focused and controlled by Jane or other AIs.. this would allow them to track eye movement of individuals and project the holographic field directly to that individual. Check out Virtual Retina Displays: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_retinal_display That is what I envisioned Seba’s art is showing… its showing what Tenzin is seeing, without guaranteeing that anyone else is seeing it. Clearer?

Hey, this is something that already exists:

its very primitive, but the only difference here would be the quality of image and the precision of the interfase

Very cool! That makes more sense. Thanks :)
