    so much awesome…

Discarding Sabot Armor Penetrating Railgun rounds, interesting.
Speedbot: “I just want a hug!”

    • DeNitro

Oh yeah baby,, Mach 5 to Mach 7, flicking those discarded sabot’s like titans shotgun pellets downrange at twice the speed of conventional bullets all while setting the atmosphere on fire in the rounds wake… At that speed even a dull flat nose slug will pop through entire tanks like bb’s through one sheet of paper..

      • So, are you saying that I actually got it right this time?

        • Woo hoo! XD

        • DeNitro

Yes, your believably accurate version of that fearfully nasty weapon,, All sexy, leathal, and portable like some of us only dream of holding and firing,, :-) Is very cool.

Still need to remember that unless shooter is “Sniping” from that mountain top many kilometers away it’s not really suited for that role… Once fired it draws a big flaming line and ionic smoke trail from target to shooter, and those discarded sabbots could ruin any anyone’s day in your forward quarter.

          • It’s almost like she was trying to get the Deathbot’s attention … ;)

          • DeNitro

Some of the best have broken important rules of their training, risking both their neck and equipment to save the day..
Most of us call them heroes, hopefully Tenzin can see a woman in that role..

          • Get enough women saving his hide and he’ll have to eventually ;)

          • Delta-v

It would be a new experience for him if he did.

      • Dusty Coyote

Why hit people with depleted uranium when you can hit them with tungsten and plasma?

        • DeNitro

That type of speed, even the aluminum with ceramic nose and fins would work for light ammo weight yet mega leathal out to rifle line of sight range..
But shooting a person rather than equipment with one,,, 😨
A kenetic plus very nasty thermal effect that gives new meaning to “Light your target up”

    • Half a hug

      • Adriano

Well he’s gonna get a full hug from that grenade launcher pretty soon

    • Honza Prchal

Rarely has a reference to Everybody Loves Raymond been so appropriate … A hug? Robert, remember the bunny!

  • Rawles Roberts III

Most railgun designs are discarding sabot, as most aerodynamic rounds are not well suited to interfacing with an electrically charged bar. There are exceptions, of course, but most are of the discarding sabot type.

  • Amberlight

I wonder where is the magazine of that railgun?
In the stock? That seems reasonable enough, although changing it would be a hassle.

  • NickDA

Man… that Dan guy is a super nerd eh? http://www.mdpi.com/2227-9059/4/3/19/html … congrats!

    • Delta-v

It’s been a while since I’ve read anything about viral anti-tumor therapy, and the inclusion of recombinant gene therapy sounds pretty exciting. It was also exciting to learn that the treatment has systemic effects, and can probably treat a metastasizing tumor. Impressive work. Congratulations, indeed.

As a member of the team, do you get any benefits if Pexa-Vec is approved? Will you still wave to us as you roar past in your Ferrari? :)

*Snicker* So now “A pox on you” is no longer a curse–especially to a cancer patient. ^^

      Hey, @NickDA:disqus , who’s the bigger nerd, Dan–or me? ^^

      • NickDA

You get double nerd points for nerdy pun. But then we revoke them for the sin off pun. Doesn’t make sense I know… but I’m just the enforcer.

Puns are serious business kids. Not even once! Stay safe.

      • Heh I am WAY down the totem pole, and get no monies for anything. My boss now used to be part of the team that designed Pexa-Vec, we’re not part of the ongoing clinical research with it.

    • proud brother is proud

    • Adriano

      Geez, what a giant nerd!

Yeah ahah congrats to Dan ^^

  • In Tenzin’s defense, he probably doesn’t have a very good view of the sniper from where he is, so his mistake is understandable.

    • Heh, more a dig at how he NEVER notices girls. Jane worries about his social life ;)

      • Matt [in Middletown]
        • Heh, minus the fact that this sounds like Jane is singing to him, I like it ;P

          • Matt [in Middletown]

Kathleen Fisher also has one titled “the squirrel song” about some squirrels that destroyed her garden.
            Sadly, not on YouTube.

      • Delta-v

And he doesn’t think much of the ones he does notice–except for Lily.

      • Adriano

By social life you mean “when will he end up marrying Angeline”, right? RIGHT? *starts to get violent*

        • Don’t make me set ships on fire, Adriano ;P

          • Adriano

If this ship is gonna sink, Imma sink with it

  • Adriano

Jane is totally fascinated by that sniper, ahah
    Awesome

Don’t forget you’ve got a meatbag in your suit, Jane!!

  • Fyrebrand

Ah. Rail-tech. Perfect weapon for snipers, them being recoilless and all, and also makes them perfect for outer-space warfare. But wait. Why is there an explosion as the projectile exits the rail?

    • A lot of what we’ve read about railguns has a burst of plasma along with the shot.

That, and it looks cool. And is easier to show that the shot is “powerful” than reality, where you likely wouldn’t see anything as the bullet zipped out XD

      • Fyrebrand

Oh cool. From what I remember about plasma, was that you need Hydrogen in its gaseous state. So, I’m guessing Hydrogen capsule around the main round?

        • Hmm, I meant a burst of plasma more as a side effect than as an intended component of the shot XD “Plasma” mayhaps used more loosely as a descriptor of super-heated air.

          • Fyrebrand

            Oh. Ok. Still pretty awesome.

        • Rawles Roberts III

To get plasma all you need is enough electricity. The plasma behind a railshot is uaully what has ablated off of the sabot carrying the round. Sometimes pasasitic, sometimes benenficial, depending on the design. Fyrebrand, I hate to tell you, but railguns do indeed have recoil. Don’t forget Newton’s 3rd law, the action-reaction pair. Action = bullet flying at high speed. Reaction = pushing back against you.

  • Moxie

    HEAPFSDSLTP?
High Explosive armor piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot long rod penetrator?

    • Quite a mouthful, especially if you take it to the face XD

      • Moxie

        Gedzhundheit!
