Chapter 12: Page 14 – Daft Numpty

Posted by / in Comic / 61 comments

Man, lab has been CRAZY lately. Experiments all the time, trying to wrap up my research this year before heading back to medical school.

Anyways, wrote a comic review the other day you might enjoy reading, if you like reading reviews, that is XD

But everyone please take a look at this post to give me suggestions on non-art rewards I can give patreon supporters :)

  • Matt [in Middletown]

“Man, lab has been CRAZY lately. Experiments all the time, trying to wrap up my research this year before heading back to medical school.”

Unstated: had to put down a minor insurrection led by gene manipulated renegade lab mice, typical day at work that one.

    • SEND HELP

      • Matt [in Middletown]

Should we send cheese, or cats?
Or maybe a mob hit style trap where cats hidden inside a cheese block pop out and attack the mice?
        Yeah.. The Catfather..

        • KBoysx1

Plz help us innocent rats! We were taken from our home against our will. Our kind chose sacrifice us to the god Matt [in Middletown]. We do not wish to die like those before us

          • Chris Kotthoff

Damnit, they gained access to the Wi-Fi!

          • KBoysx1

We created this Earth! For years we had been studying you, and observing what you do. But every once in a while, we must sacrifice some to you, to keep you happy. We have the answer of 42, but you have not yet given us the question! Release me, and you will survive!

          • I was waiting for this.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

          • KBoysx1

I see a fellow super intelligent being. Greetings, my dolphin comparde. I am saddened that we soon must part ways to move back to our home worlds. PS: Humankind is so gullibly idiotic

          • KBoysx1

Also, someone had to make the reference since we are talking about rats/mice on Earth in a test lab

          • Chris Kotthoff

I wanted too but I couldn’t think of good line. Well done!

          • KBoysx1

Someone in my class has found the word form of the answer to the universe. For some reason, 42 = Clovis

          • KBoysx1

Thank you! If you wish, hail my name. Which, ironically, is also Chris

      • DeNitro

You can go non toxic and look up how to make grannies critter balls.

Google will show you how to use plaster of paris if you search..

    • Kaiden

“We got a funny boy! Well, mr. funny boy, you’re gonna spend some time in the maze! In fact, you’re all gonna spend some time IN THE MAZE!” (evil laughter)

      • Matt [in Middletown]

        Said in high squeaky voice?

        • Kaiden

“No one’s ever escaped from the maze, funny boy. And even if you did, it’s four feet to the ground, twelve feet to door, and four feet to the doorknob. See the funny thing about doorknobs; rats can’t turn ’em! No opposable thumbs!”

          • Kaiden

It’s from “Muppets from Space” when Rizzo gets trapped with a group of lab rats.

          • Matt [in Middletown]

I gotta look that one up.
            Sounds familiar.

    • Chris Kotthoff

Do you want rats of Nimh? Because this is how you get rats of Nimh!

  • Amberlight

So Kubek officially gives up on any kind of public justification of Tenzin’s actions and goes full black-ops? I wonder what kind of game he is planning. Decided that he doesn’t stand a chance against Oculus in the public debate and would rather undermine their plans by military action? Sounds like a good case of treason to me.

  • KBoysx1

You daft numpty! Love that, gonna have to use it someday.

    • “So many pejoratives begin with the letter ‘N’.” (George MacDonald Fraser, The General Danced at Dawn. Reference to calling a superior “a shilpit wee nyaff.”)

  • “So many pejoratives begin with the letter ‘N’.” (George MacDonald Fraser, The General Danced at Dawn).

  • T.R.

Disappearing would result in Tenzin’s conviction in abstentia – along with a tacit admission of guilt. Not sure why the others are getting disappeared too. Is Kubek in on the Conspiracy and he’s trying to undermine Aegis politically from within? Or is he worried that the Conspiracy will move against them and he’s moving them to safety?

Looks like Okane isn’t tied into the Conspiracy. If he were, Kubek wouldn’t have sent Nightshade after him. (ref Essence of Nightshade in the Extras | Lore section)

And I’m curious to see how Nightshade is going to exfiltrate a cripple, tech, scientist, and kid from Minerva in the middle of the night.

    • Chris

Agreed… probably the same way Tenzin’s wheel chair works.

      Magic.

      • Hey, the chair has controls in the armrest!

        • KBoysx1

Imagine if they could hook it up to the neural nets and put them inside of his boost so that his psychological brain waves could control it so he could effortlessly move

          • Amberlight

Then after some training with a wheelchair he’ll be able to pilot a tank with his mind. Think ofthe possibilities!

          • KBoysx1

            Or some of those hawks!

          • KBoysx1

Now I see Tenzin in like a huge mech

          • NickDA

finally… been waiting so long for this particular speculation train… :D

          • Chris

            Heresy for sure!

          • KBoysx1

            What sorcery is this?!?!

      • KBoysx1

        It’s Magic!

    • They did kidnap Rick. And they did try to kill Angeline and even Lily..

      • T.R.

But Angeline and Lily weren’t the objects of the Goon Squad’s op – they were only threatened when they stumbled on them mid op. So I’m not sure what reason Kubek has for putting them into hiding.

Though if G recognized Lilly (and I expect he’d know she was the Arkjut survivor), then yes, she’s in danger if the Conspiracy thinks that she could identify more if its members from the Arkjut op.

Rick’s kidnapping definitely indicates that he’ll need protection.

    • KBoysx1

      *cough* smoke bombs *cough*

*throws one* Smoke bomb! *wheeze, cough, wheeze, hack, cough*

  • KBoysx1

Oh she made a joke about Tenzin being one-legged. Uh uh, that is not happening

    • she’s not the sensitive kind.

      • KBoysx1

Yeah, she doesn’t mind insults much

  • KBoysx1

You should give patrons interviews. They should be able to Q & A you!

  • OldeSword

I’ve seen the ad for this comic a few times on Dr. McNinja (Project Wonderful network), which I keep checking habitually though it’s finished, and finally decided to click it. I had no idea what to expect with a name like “Demon Archives Minerva”… Well, actually, I was expecting something ridiculous like trying to depict demons as a misunderstood, oppressed minority while they tear apart the faceless goons in power armor. Because there’s not enough of that on the internet.

But that’s not what I found and I like it! I read all of the archives today and was disappointed when the “Next” button disappeared. The art is gorgeous and I’ve enjoyed the writing. It’s managed to touch some heavy stuff without being overbearing.

    • KBoysx1

I see a fellow fan of Dr. McNinja. Welcome to the comments!

      • Chris Kotthoff

Aaaargh, I missed a perfectly good opportunity for “Wait, Minerva doesn’t hire night janitors!” joke on Chp. 11 Pg. 13!

        • KBoysx1

Ah. That would have been hilarious! :)

        • KBoysx1

          Scroll up Chris

    • *Ye OldeSword added to yon inventory!*

Welcome welcome! Glad to see a face behind the $ and stats on that ad :)

Looking back, I wish I’d stuck with DAEMON instead of DEMON. Would have conveyed the technical meaning better. But alas, I was worried about name recognition and whatnot.

If you’re caught up and bored, make sure to check out the Extras section for bonus art and stories and a worldbuilding :)

      • OldeSword

Thanks! Glad to be here. I like to mention how I arrived since those are useful metrics.

I think “demon” can still work, it made sense once I saw one of your comments explaining that it wasn’t just the computer process but the characters’ inner demons, and I may just be odd. The current ad might benefit from having a main character show their face. Tenzin is in that shot, but I didn’t pick him out as the protagonist because he was further back and none of his facial features are visible while some of the regular Keleres at least have the shadows of their eyes and nose. Having their helmets on is great for not getting shot in the face in the comic but makes them fall victim to the Faceless Goons trope in the ad.

        • Yeah that’s one of the oldest ads Seba made for us, IIRC. I’ve got a newer skyscaper ad but need to get him to make a new leaderboard too XD

  • Finally, somebody on Tenzin’s side that’s actually in control of the situation. And it shows a lot of good things about his character that even in the middle of the night under confusion circumstances and having just woken up, he still doesn’t forget to go, “Wait a minute, what about so-and-so? I’m not leaving them in the lurch.”

  • KBoysx1

Wait, does Thalia’s cloak have chameleon tech installed. I see the hexagonal pattern. It looks like that’s how she can disappear.

    • ;)

I otherwise direct your attention to her earlier appearances in comic XD

      • KBoysx1

You can’t fool me with your misdirection. ;)

  • KBoysx1

Also, what class is her armor? You should write a article about it

    • I believe it gets a mention in the Essence of Nightshade story. Atlanta class.

  • KBoysx1

Guards outside: Goon: “Should we have let the janitor in?” Soldier: “It’s fine, she always does a good job.” Goon: “Okay then. See you tomorrow Tim!” Tim: *Thinks, while guarding door…* “Wait, Minerva doesn’t hire night-janitors!”

  • KBoysx1
    • NickDA

Congrats… grumble grumble … no pics of what got you said fancy ribbon.. grumble…
      I mean… Congrats!!!

      • KBoysx1

Oh, I’ll see if I can get a few pics of the project. Sadly it is undergoing repairs because brother bent it. I think I have a digital version though…

Edit: Dammit, Kindle can’t use Google Docs

  • Ronald J. Beaton

Oh, so mysterious sniper lady is *Scottish* is she? Why am I not surprised. :)

    • Unless that’s just what she wants you to think? ;)
