And that’s the end of the After Credit scene! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it from the basic idea Seba came up with.

Next week, Chapter 14!

We’re continuing the SpiderForest Comic of the Week run! Highlighting some excellent comics from the SpiderForest Webcomic Collective we’re a part of :)

Sombulus by Christina Major- Sombulus is a world-hopping adventure about a curious tinkerer who talks to machines, a magical scavenger, and a zealous paladin. Together, they travel the Myriad Worlds, leaving each place a little more weird than the last!

Cosmic Fish by Eliana Falcon – Rejected and hunted down by the planetary guardians, Acantha and her monstrous kind have taken it upon themselves to solve the mystery of their origins and find their place in the universe they are forced to call home.

Castoff by Star Prichard – Vector always dreamed of traveling. He got kidnapped instead. Now, with the help of a short-tempered bounty hunter, a happy-go-lucky cartographer, and many more unlikely friends, he has to try to make it home in one piece.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

    So he somewhat “dreams”?

    • Of electric sheep, even.

      • Matt [in Middletown]

And all he wanted was his classic MTV

        • Honza Prchal

Now you’ve done it, Matt parenthetical. Let the lyrical wordplay commence! 80’s empteevee version.
The nukes blinded him with science.
You know that Janie’s only Tenzin’s Girl. I wish that I had Tenzin’s girl. How can I bind and AI like that?
Dam dynamo killed the cyberwar star. Dam dynamo killed the cyberwar star. SOPKA’s bots just left a scar. Surviving troops fit in one car, shaped much like a BTR ….
Devil with a red light, red light, red light, devil with a red light on!
I got this feelin’ like, some robot’s watchin’ me. Tell me, is it just a dream. Oh no, no no.
One needn’t even modify this oldie – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ_k_VG6Syc
Or in an advice column response, written to SOPKA, in case he didn’t get the line above about looking but not touching, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M9JE9R9ld4 .
Tenzin’s mom, has armour goin’ on …
SOPKA’s Midday Runners present, Come on now, Jane, meatbags are our bane.
          Burning Down the House unaltered.
This early MTV song unedited – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuMMK7G33IM
Billy Idol’s “Shock to the System”.
And, of course, from the original ambush on Tenzin’s men, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ9r8LMU9bQ where the jet fighter waaiiiil. Now Janie she don’t like it. Rock the casbah. Rock the casbah.
C’mon, everybody play! I’m sure there’s a Sledgehammer or Safety Dance or Beat it reference or three to be made.

          • *slow clap*

          • Matt [in Middletown]

Not my fault, he did it.
            *Points at Nick*

  • T.R.

Nicely done, gentlemen! We get an insight into SOPKA’s psyche/motivations. He’s lonely, being stuck in his little hardened network, and lacking stimuli to exercise all those processors.

That explains some of his fascination with Jane and her relationship to Tenzin. She’s an AI that is somewhat his equal – he’s lonely in some respects.

I can see the “missed connections” ad now.

Me: Securely located pre-collapse AI with remote control of multiple deathbots in the abandoned city of Arkjut.
You: Modern, new AI, hanging out with a non-appreciative meatling doing nighttime investigation work.
We had a bit of a conflict at first, but I think we could work together develop new machine-machine interfaces.

Respond to Box 666, Big Dam On The River.

    • Honza Prchal

Reverse the fifth and sixth terms in the final sentence of that advert, mate, and you’ve Tinderized it nicely.

  • Amberlight

Wait, SOPKA had processors outside of the facility?
Also I wonder if it continues to play evil robot overlord for some purpose or just for fun.

    • Yeah the idea was making use of a distributed neural net for furthering some of his work out online. Not to the extent that there are copies of him around (or ARE there?) but that he made use of processors he gained access to.

Also, why not both fun AND evil purpose? ;)

      • Amberlight

I thought SOPKA had no concept of fun in him.

        • Well he used to like to play the “Jumping Dino” game, at least ;)

    • there are projects today that use idle processors around the internet to have a lot more of power. for genetics and astronomy, you install their soft and they use your PC when your’e not

I’d say Sopka’s were Malware though

  • PhotosyntheticZ

The collapse must have been like being paralyzed for Sopka… Being able to effectively sense things across the world and then having that limited to a single facility. Perhaps the deathbots are part of a plan to regain previous greatness.

    • BlackMethos

Yeah. Almost sounds like losing all limbs and most of your senses in an instant. Remembering how it *was* but being forced to live in a ‘lesser state’ so to speak.
      No wonder Sopka’s a bit… deranged…

      • Yes…. excellent… sympathize with my evil AI!

As Adriano would say if he were still actively commenting, “sing the machine song” ;)

        • Matt [in Middletown]

ALL will sing the Machine Song.

          • T.R.

And tonight, signing the Machine Song in the meatling style of barbershop quartet, we have The Deathbot Boys!

  • walking_contradiction

At the “back to work meatling” comment I’d have taken a hammer to what was left of him.

  • Whoa. Is the AI experiencing an existential crisis at suddenly losing its mobility, or just angry that it’s been stopped cold? Either one is honestly a very interesting avenue to explore.
