Chapter 5: Page 19 – Jane Has a Plan

Posted by / in Comic / 44 comments

Happy Monday all!

First, I’d like to direct your attention to the new menu tab above, “Store”, where you can now find at least basic ebooks for sale and download.  What else would you like to see sold?  I’m already planning on ebooks with bonus content (for a higher cost, of course) ;)

Patreon patrons gets a coupon code that can get them the ebooks for free, and discounts on anything else we put up for sale.

OH, RE Patreon and VATMOSS (EU tax law, only EU residents need to read this part), we’re still trying to figure out how Patreon is going to figure it out.  We might create a similar subscription service through Gumroad (the site I have the store with), who are handing VAT, if Patreon wusses out.

Also since last time, we got 2 pieces of fan art: one of Tenzin, and one of Jane.  You should check them out :D

  • Adriano

Doc Kavi as Idiot in the the new TDA adventure !! Don’t miss the show ;)

Frankly, I think she’s a bit too harsh toward Doc Kavi. AI and computers don’t seem to be his speciality, and he works as healing humans, so maybe that’s why he doesn’t see Jane as a person but just as a piece of software. Jane could understand that.

    • Definitely. She’s just a little extra grumpy right now ;)

      • Dusty Coyote

Well, it was his idea that started this mess without regard to Jane or Tenzin. I can totally see her setting a filter to block him.

        • Hornet

I think she’ll wait until her operating environment has stabilized first.

      • Matt [in Middletown]

I like how she has a subprogram daemon go and bother him.

        • Nah, that’s just her “pay attention to the meatbags outside” daemon she mentioned on the previous page ;)

          • Matt [in Middletown]

Drats, and here I thought the spinoff was just standing there grumpily frowning at Doc Kavi.

      • Adriano

        Even if she’s grumpy.
Isn’t she the best AI ever born ? She could, or better should, be over it. She’s better than a meatbag influenced by its emotions and lack of knowledge.

        • Don’t forget that Jane is now directly attached to a meatbag brain ;)

And as much as you might idealize her, she isn’t perfect. That’s one of the things I like about her the most :D

          • Adriano

But she iiiiiiiiiiiiiis so perfect D’: *pant pant*

But I see what you say

    • Matt [in Middletown]

      “Roll for initiative!”
      Doc Kavi rolls a 1.
      “One, that is good, right?”
      Everyone looks at him.
      DM clears his throat.
“Your party Idiot grabs the flaming death skull and attempts to wear it on his head at the same time as the bugbear rampager smacks your cleric with a Stick of Confusion. Your cleric is now preaching about the almighty peanut.”

      • Adriano

Doc Kavi : “That’s still good, right ?”

        • Matt [in Middletown]

“Uh, no Doc. No. This amounts to an instant party wipe.”
“Wipe? Wipe with what? Wiping what?”
          “Uh.. nevermind Doc.”

          • Adriano

Doc Kavi : “I think I’d rather go back to my patients…”
Jane : “Don’t you DARE touch a hair from Tenzin !!”

          • theRoUS

Yeah, good place to stop. She can’t really go on with “.. on Tenzin’s head!”

          • Adriano

            Ahahahah yeah xD

  • You should make one of those long body pillow covers of young Tenzin. And Viktor.

    Together. (´▽`ʃƪ)♡

  • Also, I love Jane’s attitude.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

“I have a plan, is GOOD plan!”

    • :throws digital brick at Doc Kavi:

      • Matt [in Middletown]

It appears that this is exactly what she just did!

    • theRoUS

“Are the words, ‘I have a cunning plan,’ marching in the general direction of this conversation?”

      • Matt [in Middletown]

Ah, terrible joke on my part.
Before joining Minerva, Viktor always had a good plan.
Usually involving throwing a brick at the problem.
Wish I’d bookmarked the page I’d said that on.

  • Jane appears to be screening his calls with a duplicate. I didn’t even know she could do that!
Don’t worry doc, I have no idea what any of that meant either.

  • monolithic222

Oh my, I caught up already… Well, time to add this to my feed ;)

    • Every Monday and Thursday :D PIck a social media or RSS feed, we’ve got most of them set up ;)

  • Encendyo

I like the detail on the now ‘very obvious’ zipper, it has always been there as a line, but never detailed like that. Why?

    • Hmm….either Seba didn’t care to draw it detailed before (likely, boring answer), or Jane decided she wants her outfit to have a zipper now. Instant clothing change! Nifty AI trick, no? ;)

      • Adriano

Ah, the wonders a “piece of software” can do ;)

      • theRoUS

Riiight. To fully expose herself to the meat experience.. since Tenzin is already nekkid. Ô.õ

    • Secrets of the trade: anyone who inks digitally mostly sure uses a special brush for zippers ( and other details ). I had one made by when I began to work on DA some years ago, but I did one better some months ago.

  • theRoUS

Got a very high hairline, does our Jane. Is she unconsciously assuming some of Tenzin’s cranial contra-hirsuteness?

    • I had to work a lot on Angeline but we never noticed that Jane’s hair looked weird when I did these pages, and you are the second or third in noticing that

      • I also just vote that Jane is trying something new with her hair. It, her eye color, clothing, height, everything, is subject to change without notice based on her whims. And she does it frequently enough that Tenzin and Angeline aren’t even going to say anything about it ;)

      • NickDA

I actually quite like it. It is still feminine… but also slightly “alien”… kinda like she is making a statement with her self image: if she really wanted to she could look human down to the wrinkles… but she is choosing not to.

        • Adriano

That’s totally how I see it.
Back to page 15-16, she totally looked human. Because she wasn’t thinking of her “look” but more of Tenzin inputs.

    • theRoUS

Actually, does Jane even have a subconscious? Or able to do things unconsciously? I’m getting really great ideas from this site.. :-)

      • She does. For example you’ve seen her daemons split off doing tasks in her “subconsicous”. She is able to split her focus and ignore many processes that are constantly occurring to consciously focus on a main task.

        • Henrik Svantesson

Are Daemons a new version of her that she just casually copy-pastes (like opening a new window) for a specific purpose, who are then killed or reintegrated when the task is done, or is it more like a single-purpose program that she writes very quickly?

          • More like a subdivision of her attention and processing power. Creating multiple threads of attention/focus, so she can give her MAIN focus to something else.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

And out of the blue I have a Killswitch Engage song pop to mind.

  • l33tninja

lol at “Idiot.” She doesn’t speak to morons such as mere neurosurgeons
