More cool alternative energy ideas: Harnessing the power of play

Posted by / in Blog / Link

In my daily news reading on the internets I always pay special attention to green and alternative energy stories. This is probably partly because of the project we are doing (Minerva likes green energy), but also because my dad has almost always worked in nuclear power, so I’ve been thinking about electricity sources for a long time :) One of my most recent posts was about harnessing a plant-microbe fuel cell. Today, I want to talk about projects that work to harvest the energy potential of play.

Getting electricity from plants? Awesome!

Posted by / in Blog / Link

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a couple of days. Life’s been busy, and I know my blog is not as exciting as the comic pages. There should be one getting posted quite soon today, probably as soon as Nick wakes up. Today, I wanted to tell you about this pearl of a potential alternative energy tech - plant-microbial fuel cells.

Scientists can synthesize gasoline from CO2 and H2O

Posted by / in Blog / Link

So apparently some British scientists figured out a way to make gas from CO2 and H2O.

The article talks it up big, saying that it:

promises to solve the energy crisis as well as helping to curb global warming by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

That’s kind of ridiculous. You remove some CO2 only to burn it later and turn it back into CO2 again? Not really helping. Not to mention the fact that it takes more energy to produce the synthetic fuel then you get out of it.
