9 hours of babysitting…

Posted by / in Blog / Link

For the past couple of weeks (and for the next several weeks as well), members of my congregation have been going out to volunteer and help clean up the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Today my wife and I volunteered to babysit the kids of some of the other congregants so they could go out and clean up some people’s houses and such. So today, instead of studying for my Monday exam, I played with 7 kids for about 9 hours.

Snow

Posted by / in Blog / Link

Yesterday, almost adding insult to injury, we had a decent sized snow storm in New Jersey. Luckily, we didn’t lose any power, but a lot of people either still don’t have power back from Hurricane Sandy or they lost it again, meaning they had to suffer in the cold, which really isn’t any fun (I’ve done it). It did make for a very beautiful landscape last night when I looked out of our apartment window. I should have taken a picture, but I didn’t. Oh well. I’ll just steal someone else’s photo and call it good.

Hurricane Sandy

Posted by / in Blog / Link

This week I experienced my first severe natural disaster, when Hurricane Sandy came ripping through New Jersey. Growing up in Arizona, the only disasters we ever had were fire and drought, neither of which personally affected me. This time though, I am right in the middle of it all. My town didn’t get hit horribly bad, but we still don’t have heat or power three days after the storm. I had to go onto campus to get electricity, charge phones, check internet and such.
