Have you faced your Demons yet today? - Comic updates bi-weekly Monday and Thursday.

Hey all.

So we were scheduled to relaunch the website tomorrow. Unfortunately, Nick’s video/graphic cards broke two days ago. Luckily for him they are under warranty, but that will take a while to get them replaced. While he is working on a short-term solution, this will delay him finishing the website. So we have to roll it back to Monday the 19th of August, that’s 8-19-13, to give him time to finish it.

Good news is that on launch day we will immediately post like 10 (I forget if it’s 9 or 10) new pages of material from the Prologue to Chapter 1. Every day after that we will load up a page or two of content starting in Chapter 1, until we catch up to Chapter 3, after which it will be 2 updates a week again.

So hang tight, I can promise that it is going to be worth it.

Hey all!

So, according to Nick the new version of the website is about a day’s worth of work from completion. Unfortunately that day gets spread out into bits and pieces around his full-time job and familial responsibilities. And since his job is coding for ~10 hours a day, after work it’s often difficult for him to find the energy to sit down and code more at home.

Regardless, it is very nearly at the level of perfection that Nick’s OCD requires before we launch, so we are hoping it will be soon. In preparation for this, Seba has been working on some sweet GIFs to use as banners and advertisements and such. They aren’t fully finished yet, with the code and links such that anybody can grab them and use them or whatever. Regardless, I wanted to share them with you because they are so awesome.

Good evening readers, the week is drawing to a close and we are pretty happy with everything that has happened since launch. That said, into the nitty gritty of the next episode in my techie babble about what makes the Demon Archives run behind the scenes.

Do any of you use Reddit? There is a saying on Reddit that happens when they link to somebodies website. That saying is that the site was “Reddited” which means burned into a fiery cinder and left sobbing in the corner by the sheer onslaught of traffic. You see servers can only handle so much traffic before they just up and die on you, they start rejecting and failing to load, then if it gets to bad the server can destabilize and requires a reboot… this is nasty and is actually a technique used to attack people’s websites called DDOS (distributed denial of service). There are lots of ways to mitigate the benign onslaught of traffic, caching, speedier pages, multiple servers, content distribution networks, minifying, etc. Read more

Hey readers (I actually have readers now!). So yesterday we launched, as many of you know. It was pretty fun for me to watch our site tracker throughout the day and see the hundreds of page views that we got. I’m sure a lot of them were me, but it is pretty gratifying (and weird) to realize that friends, family, and complete strangers are looking at our graphic novel. We’ve got people from around the world already looking at our website, which is pretty crazy.

Anyways, I hope that you enjoyed the first installment of Book 1: Minerva. The next several pages are done and ready to be uploaded, so we will be holding to our posted schedule. In case you didn’t know, the schedule is:

  • Mondays: Comic page
  • Tuesdays: Science article
  • Wednesdays: Lore article
  • Thursdays: Comic page
  • Fridays: Story page

You can find these posts in each of their sections at the top of the website, or by following us on Facebook, Twitter or Google Plus. Every time something gets posted on the website it automatically updates all our social media sites. There are links to all of our social media sites at the bottom of the main page, so please like, follow and +1 us. Then you’ll never miss a post. There is also a fair amount of other content on the page besides the first three comic pages, so look around. Some things are still a little rough, but leave us a comment when you find something and we’ll get to fixing it as soon as we can.

You’re all awesome!

Dan
