Welcome, internet, to the Daemon Archives! Starting today we’ll begin uploading content from the project. While we already have several pages done, we want to create a decent sized buffer so we never miss a post date. So today, I (Dan) want to explain what our project entails and how it began.

The Daemon Archives had its beginning in the darkly creative corners of my brother Nick’s brain. Unformed thoughts and ideas about the singularity and a post-apocalyptic world mixed and merged, unable to escape. Frustrated at his inability to express his story in text or art, Nick invited me to help him transfer the world he had created in his mind to the real world. Beginning in early August of 2011, Nick and I tried our hands at writing a short story in the world. The results were ok. We’ll post them up this week for your viewing pleasure. Our rough stories did serve the important purpose of being the beginnings of a much better story.

Over the next 4 months Nick and I outlined the details of our new world, and began forming the basics of a story to introduce it. Come January 2012. when I enrolled in a Creative Writing: Science Fiction class taught by Brandon Sanderson, I was ready to begin writing our story. Our one real assignment in the class was to write 50,000 words of a novel, on which we would get comments and feedback from peers and from Sanderson himself, so I was excited to try to write the first novel of the Daemon Archives.

I have to say, it was a lot of fun. I was preparing for medical school at the time (and am in medical school now), so it was great to be creative in a very different way. Fairly early on, my writing group and I realized that my story would best be told as a graphic novel, something that Nick had wanted to do anyways, so we began to contact comic artists. We hosted a competition in order to select two artists (2 instead of just 1 for reasons that would spoil the story now) in first quarter of 2012, and began planning and production of our comic by the beginning of summer.

This brings us today, when I am happy to officially welcome you to the Daemon Archives. As of right now we have several pages done and ready to upload. We’re slowly adding content, however, in order to create a buffer and never miss a posting deadline. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll take you through the whole course of the creation of the project, letting you see initial sketches, stories and outlines. I’ll also explain more about what our story is about, and where we hope to take the project.

Cheers… and Welcome to the Daemon Archives!

Dan
