So I’ve written before about the sweet creative writing class I took from author Brandon Sanderson. One of my writing group buddies from that class is starting/working on a really cool interactive fiction project. Basically, it’s a choose-your-own adventure requiring reader involvement to determine where the story will go next. My friend, the author, writes a couple of pages of the story, and then asks the readers to post what they think will happen next. Then, whichever idea gets the most votes, wins!

I previously wrote that it was unclear when our organization switched names from The Foundation to Minerva. That may have been a little premature. It has been known for some time that before the War, they went by the former name, and that in most of the early records after the Long Winter use the latter. The archiving of several dozen notebooks, memos and journals belonging to various researchers of little influence, while not adding much to the body of scientific knowledge, have revealed some important facts about the development of the organization we now know as Minerva.

Tenzin signaled his pentad to take up positions around the entryway before continuing the last couple of metres. Reaching out his gauntleted fist, Tenzin knocked on the massive door. The resounding booms filled the air, echoing in his ears for a moment before fading to utter silence. As the seconds ticked by, Tenzin looked impatiently at the video camera observing them.

On an impulse, Tenzin decided to join the conversation. He did a quick about-face, startling the group of whisperers. Tenzin didn’t need the readouts from Jane on his HUD measuring Marcus’ pulse and temperature to know that he was embarrassed – Tenzin could see the blush on his face.

Tenzin signaled his pentad to cover him and took a few cautious steps forward. “Jane,” Tenzin asked, “Did you catch any video of whatever that was?”

“Yes, and I’m analyzing it now,” Jane replied. The images replayed slowly on Tenzin’s HUD a couple of times as Jane did her best to identify the rapidly moving figure. “I only caught 1.3 seconds of video, but based on approximate size and height it was likely a man. It appears he was wearing a burnoose, so it was likely a citizen of Arkjut.”
