Chapter 10: Page 8 - Mass Grave

Here, while Seba perfects the colors, I’m putting up the inks, that way you can have something before I have to go to work. EDIt: Now with colors.

Quick, someone find me a suitably angst-y/vengeance-y song to go with Tenzin retrieving and burying all of his comrades in a mass grave.

  • Kaiden

    Angst-y and vengeance-y, huh? Hmmm….

  • Honza Prchal

Didn’t the good guys … or the bad ones ever return to scavenge useful hardware … or just metal? There must be really low population density or Oculus armor is just really hard to repurpose and Minerva is just too hard-pressed to have taken the time to gather all the damaged goods up.
Bad idea, to leave it around, though. American armored columns punched through the Germans because we did repair and recover all our lousy damaged and destroyed vehicles very, very quickly. Perhaps the lack of recovery was intentional …

    • I like the way you think :)

But also don’t forget, shortly after the devastating defeats of multiple Aegis field teams by mysterious deathbots, Minerva got invaded by several groups of enemies. Between timing, politics, and being undermanned, a lot of things didn’t get done.

      • Honza Prchal

“Too hard pressed”, then, and I will further assume the locals are gone and the marauders have been having Tenzin problems, and everyone nearby has similar concerns with firefights and desertion int he wilds is fraught with peril, so little looting, which again may not have been useful for low-tech types needing to carry away whatever they find …
        Makes sense. Very depressing, and this is such a cheery setting! ;-}

        • The cheeriest ;) Tenzin’s about to discover a magical rainbow unicorn, and fly away to a land of lollipops and cotton candy.

          • Honza Prchal

That’s Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo. You cannot fool me, Mr. Sharp, sharp though you are!

          • I read this all yesterday after you mentioned it XD

          • Honza Prchal

I am so pleased you saw it, Mr. Sharp. For a story of a reanimated skeleton and his flesh-eating companion in a world cursed to evil, it’s remarkably jaunty, isn’t it?
When I first began to read it, I was disgruntled and hadn’t been gruntled in quite some time, but now I’ve achieved a palpably effable sense of gruntling from their antics. I hope it had a similar effect on you.
I’m naturally more inclined to your work, or Soul to Call, but the bluebird of happiness flaying winsomely past an entire brood of harpies munching on the local bunny population somehow puts a spring in my step and a song in my heart.

I want that second paragraph read in voiceover man voice… lol

US also wasn’t afraid to blow up their own stuff if it became unattainable to relocate or defend.

  • Chris

Disturbed - cover “Sound of Silence”

    seems fitting.

  • Keith Schiffner

Hmm, either Paint it Black or March of Cambredth.

going there is one thing, but actually digging through all the rubble, finding every mangled and desiccated body, and taking ech and every dog tag is more than just a physical chore. the terror and memories of that event will replay themselves for every shard and crap he finds, and every tag will remind him of another person he failed to protect.
This is the most painful thing he likely has done since it all began. all to give those men a sliver of peace, and to bring back a single thing for each of their families and loved ones.
it is a hard thing to do, but Tenzin is showing just how devoted to his men he was.
    (dammit now I’m tearing up.)

  • Kaiden

I’m stealing panel 7 as an avatar.

  • Adriano

“It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this broken helmet with you!”

  • IgnisDraco

Two questions, are those holes on his back exhaust ports? and is the bottom left one supposed to be filled in with grey?

    • They are not exhaust ports, you’ll learn their function shortly ;)

And that looks like an art error. @sebastinpriz:disqus ?

  • STL Orca

“Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath borne me on his back a thousand times, and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!”
