I’m not that familiar with weaponry but that looks like some serious hardware. Bigger than mere rebels would be expected to have.

    There’s a webcomic about a really tired old soldier who lived through the WWIII and there are only he, always in a gas mask, his dog, always in a gas mask, and a whole US Army bunker filled to brim with weapons, because everyone else who knew about the bunker are dead.
    If anyone knows the name, I will be much obliged, I lost track of it a long time ago.

  Xactly… which is why we had to have a prologue added after the fact… to make it clear what most of the “rebels” of the time might be using.

  Yeah, we thought to expound upon the old/abandoned concept of flechettes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flechette In this case with explosives packed in instead of chemical agents.
  
  Also yeah, Seba’s artistic choices here for “exploding inside the soldier” was spot on and frightening.

Are those smart micro missiles? What are they keyed to? I would think it would be too hot to use a thermal reading. And those armor suits can hide them from thermal scans.

  Straight up “line of sight” flechette/micro-missiles yep. Specifically designed against these suits.

This was definitely planned. These “raiders” knew that they would be found, presumably by this team. Exploding armor piercing rounds don’t seem like your average preparations. That probably requires a plant within the military. Maybe somebody wants Jane dead?
