Chapter 3: Page 5 - Grumpy Face

Happy Monday all!

Many thanks again to our dear reader Amberlight for correcting our Russian on the next page and on a couple of pages coming up. We really appreciate it. Does anyone else know any languages they might be speaking in our story? Chinese (both types), Indian languages, Arabic, French, anything other than English or Spanish really (we have those covered)? If so, shoot me an email (dan at demonarchives dot com) if you are willing to help me when I want a Bilingual Bonus, or for potentially helping translate pages into other languages so we can have a multilingual site.

Also a question for you all. Have you heard of Patreon? It’s like a crowdfunding subscription service for content, that a lot of comic creators I know have started using as a fundraising site, offering incentives and early page releases and stuff in exchange for $$ “subscriptions” to the comic. What do you guys think about that? Good/bad/interesting idea? Would you be willing to subscribe to the tune of $1 a page/a month to get a page a day/week early, or for exclusive behind the scenes sketches or bonus wallpapers or something? Let us know below.

As always, if you are willing, like, share, and vote for us :)

Yeah, I think that having Patreon available would be a fine thing. Since nobody is being FORCED to participate, I don’t see a downside to having it there for those who want to.

I’m also fully in favor of Liking, Sharing, and VOTING! (More on that last, later) :)

Here’s the promised “more” on voting. On Saturday, Demon Archives got a whopping-three votes. That’s 3, as in one single digit. One of them was mine, one was most probably Daniel’s, and I don’t know about the other. If you’ve ever asked yourself if one vote makes a difference, here’s your answer. If even one other person had voted, it would have been a quarter of the vote total for the day.

So you see just how important your vote is, and why I’ve been asking for it. One day’s vote crash almost put DA off the Top 100 all together, and right now it’s still limping along in the 90’s. It turns out that twenty rank levels is not enough of a hedge against disaster.

DA needs more than that. DA needs you-every day. Please?

The situation somewhat reminds me of what I whitnesed with another comic, The Chronicles of Loth, about a year ago.
I’v started trackingit when I found it in 90-something place in the top, after wich it slowly rose to 50s and held there for several weeks, after wich it plummetet down below 100. About two months later it again appeared at the bottom of 100-list and started climbing. One or two months later it just leaped from the lower middle to top-20, where it steadily holds to this day.

My point with all this story is - Demon Archives is a rather young comic and it has a long way to go to build a solid fanbase, so severe fluctuations are normal. What you probablu should focus on is not convincing people to vote every day, but to share the comic with other people. More people = more solid votes.

And yes, it also has always-nev fanservise vote insentives. Maybe we should make some too? Like nude picture of one of the characters, Murderbot, for example?

        • Seba, can we get a nude of the deathbot? Or maybe put it in a bikini. That might be funnier ;)

          • Sebastián Píriz

The deathbot has cartoon logic, wears a cape but not pants

      • That’s why all the impassioned pleas for more voters come from @disqus_YXP2bgiR4G:disqus ;) I’m not super worried about our rank right now, except in how I’ve noticed that a higher rank actually brings in a lot more new people. So I guess I do care about it.

I’m coming at this from a little different angle. Back in December a mutual acquaintance suggested that I look over Demon Archives. I read it, liked it, and decided to vote for it. I was appalled to find it almost to level 5000, because I felt that it was much better than that, so I made it a project to encourage people to vote. I have a unique advantage, because, although I am friends with the Demon Archive team, I’m not one of them, so I can be as shameless as I like in begging for votes. I can do and say things which would (and probably do) embarrass them no end. My rationale is simple: DA deserves attention. Voting produces attention in direct proportion to ranking. Therefore I ask people to vote. I ask a lot. I’m not ashamed to beg.

Most of the people I know are already reading DA. All that’s left for me is to ask them for votes. Is it effective? Nearly all of those who comment also vote. Q.(as they say) E.D. :)

Always love the use of coloring in this comic, especially the different opacities for the visors and the HUD effects.

I’m still deciding how much I’m willing to use on patreon, and how many people I’m going to support. You guys are definitely on the shortlist. I say go for it.

    • Aww, thanks Marius. I’m going to have to discuss with my wife if I can get a Patreon pledging budget of my own to support some of my favorites :D

  • Well everybody, I decided to make a Patreon. Let me know what you think of it, the pledge levels, rewards, and goals.
