Chapter 4: Page 27 - Morning Routine

Posted by / in Comic / 43 comments

Here is my first post from the past! I’m out of town this week at a Boy Scout camp, so I’m trying to schedule these posts in advance. Hopefully they work!

Today’s starts a new flashback sequence by Seba, in a fun style I really enjoyed. It reminds me of Samurai Jack or something.

Play nice while I’m gone, and listen to Nick and Delta-v (volunteer community mod), and vote for my weird art entry :D

  • Amberlight

The art style really looks like something from a dream, with weird proportions and messed up perspective.

    • Delta-v

Yeah, while I really enjoyed the other sequences, as I look back at them, they seem more like traumatic memories replaying themselves with some dreamlike or nightmarish elements. This feels more surreal, the mind reinterpreting the events it doesn’t want to deal with directly.

Dan promised us that things were going to get stranger, so I guess we’re going there.

  • NickDA

Yeah. Seba is an incredibly talented guy to be able to spit up so many different styles. This one has some absolutely breathtaking action sequences.

  • Jason Clayton

Well, i believe that i have filled all the gaps, so now i’m off to start on the “un-named” child. I found a file that i can start from on the sketchup 3D warehouse. It needs a few tweaks, then i’ll import it into the file and start positioning her.

    • Delta-v

Wow, you’re giving ambition a good name. :) Is there any chance you could do a 360 degree video of the finished product so that those of us who will never own a copy can see what it looks like?

      • Jason Clayton

Thanks, if I have difficulty with the video, there will at least be multiple pictures

        • Delta-v

That would work. I just wanna see it. :)

    • NickDA

      you sir are a boss…

      • Jason Clayton

        X3

        • Michael Clayton

Since were on the topic (of sorts) I think I’ve figured out a solution to making the sphere of wood for that roman spartha. Go to like Michael’s and see if they have a wooden sphere. Then cut everything else in parts and then assemble them all as well as painting and making the blade look metal with a nice lol trick I know of ;)

          • NickDA

Since you crafty types are here… I’ve got a rather nice 7 point elk rack and a small-ish (1 meter by .5 meter) moose rack in my garage. I am planning on using it for some fun projects, hilts for knives etc… Lemme now if you’d be able to make use of a chunk, I’m sure we could arrange that.

          • Michael Clayton

Like this? I don’t have any rivits atm tho which is what you usually use to secure the blade.

          • NickDA

pretty much exactly like that :D

          • Michael Clayton

I don’t have any rivets or a rivet gun atm so I cant do that with a steel blade. Kuz what you do is you cut out a slot for the tang of the blade to go into the antler and then drill 2 holes into the side of the antler. Then you put two steal rivets in there to hold the blade in place

    • Michael Clayton

      PROGRESS!!!

  • Hjels

Yeah, I totally caught the Samurai Jack vibe. And anything that evokes Samurai Jack is ok in my book.

    • NickDA

And now Tenzin gets stuck in an insolvable time loop…. noooooo

    • NickDA

50,000 Minervan Credits to whomever does a [email protected]$$ voiceover type intro like the intro to Samurai Jack: “Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil! But a foolish Samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku!”

      • Hjels

I miss Mako. The best voice in voice acting. And that laugh… Man was a genious.

  • Michael Clayton

    @second panel… Them manely squats

    • NickDA

Glutes like a boss… Tenzin never skips leg day.

      • Michael Clayton

That makes me think of those pics of ppl who have really impressive arms and chests……and then you see their legs and you bust out laughing

        • NickDA

I was about to make a horrid joke about some of the Keleres who didn’t quite make it in chapter 2/3, that they had skipped leg day. Then I realized it was horrid… then I typed it anyway basically here under the pretense of not typing it… brain = evil/bad

          • Michael Clayton

            Lol

  • Michael Clayton

Major props to seba for being able to draw so many different styles. I only got realistic pencil lol. With I could more styles like seba ;p

    • Sebastián Píriz

Major props to Nick and Dan, who don’t panic when their artist says: “I have an idea…”

      • Michael Clayton

        True that lol

      • NickDA

Only cuz your ideas are so darn amazing :D

  • Neil Kapit

He was made of iron even before he got his powered suit

  • Sebastián Píriz

did anybody realize that Tenzin still has exactly the same wake-up routine many years later?

    • Delta-v

Old habits are hard to break. (Plus, he has really focused creators/writers.) :)

  • Delta-v

Yikes! I was just over on the TWC site, and The Demon Archives has dropped out of the Top 100 by a lot. We’re about 12 votes short of getting back on, so PLEASE vote while I look for a defibrillator to restart my heart. :(

    • NickDA

breath… breath… breath But yeah, I saw that to.

  • Ydo Ucare

I guess Tenzin doesn’t sleep with his necklace-thingy on? Either that or it magically disappeared for one panel.

Love the new style, by the way. Super cartoony and fun looking.

  • Adriano #WR

Wow, I love the art style and the emotions given by this style and the story :D

  • Adriano #WR

    Like a lone badass wanderer

  • This bit really reminded me of the Fallout games, especially with how it progressed. There is a bit of a Samurai Jack vibe, except Tenzin is a lot less stoic than Jack.

  • Back on the wooden man :)

    • Sebastián Píriz

Actually, he’d be back on the wooden man on the first pages of chapter one. He’s consistent trough the years

  • theRoUS

Okey, now Tenzin looks like Bullwhip Griffin. (From the book _By the Great Horn Spoon!_, not the film.)

    • NickDA

Bookmarked that for next vacation or sick day :D

  • Legendary Sisters

I still hear that high-pitched flute from the flash-backs in Akira during all of this.

  • Random Guy

    Samurai Jorges.
