Chapter 4: Page 3 - Meet Indira

Posted by / in Comic / 23 comments

I know you’ve all been waiting and theorizing about the mysterious Indira.

Well, here you go. Enjoy ;)

After enjoying, don’t forget to give us a vote over on TWC, and maybe even check out our Patreon if you’d like to support us and help pay the artists :)

In other news, we got a mini-spotlight over on the webcomic Mysteries of the Arcana, in the form of a full page ad of The Demon Archives. Check it out and share the love!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that this awesome page was done by guest artist Matias Basla.

Hoh boy, this is shaping up to be like Grave of the Fireflies.

    • Oh wow! You all keep finding things I need to read and see. This looks really good, and pertinent. Just post-WW3 instead of during WW2.

      • Carina

Bring tissues. That movie doesn’t pull any punches, especially when you consider it is really based on a true story.

It is NOT a happy movie.

        • …I may or may not have already watched it today when I should have been studying for my exam tomorrow…

I will probably have to refrain from commenting on it until after the next couple of sequences, lest I give anything in our story away in my comparisons/thoughts, etc. Suffice it to say that I enjoyed it and found interesting parallels to Tenzin and Indira :)

Really enjoying this new chapter, with a look into Tenzin’s backstory. I already knew he’d had a hard life just by virtue of the story, but seeing it is much more meaningful than just guessing it.

    • Glad it’s enjoyable so far, since there are several more sequences to come after this one ;)

      • Carina

Yeah the backstory - I’m really glad we’re getting it.

Tenzin so far has been a bit standard-broody-action-hero with standard-angsty-past, it’s really nice to finally see what really makes him take tick, beyound him being the type of protac usually expected in this type of story.

        • Hopefully his tragic backstory will be believable/real enough to bring him slightly beyond the cliché, at least. It’s hard trying to not be cliché when the character keeps trying to be written that way ;)

          • Carina

Tropes are Tropes for a reason. *shrug*

So far it’s looking good, though. I mean, it’s pretty much a given that this ain’t ending happy, but for me it’s so much easier feel empathy with somebody when I see what’s going on as opposed to when they’re just being annoying.

It’s the reason I always prefered Spike over Angel in Buffy. Spike was an ass, but he didn’t brood about! /dates herself horribly.

(And I feel you regarding uncooperative characters. At least I have the power to throw mine off a cliff when they get annoying.)

  • Oh this getting even more interesting, and I didn’t know that could happen. The “backstory” phase is where I really start to salivate over a story, especially when the backstory is explained on a personal character level rather than as a macro overview.

    Excellent!

    • NickDA

Thanks man… we didn’t want to do typical flashback style stuff… nor random expository speeches etc…

On a completely unrelated note, how do we navigate to TWC’s new contest in such a way that Demon Archives gets credit for it?

Also, Demon Archives is dropping rapidly again in the Top 100 rankings, so if you like the comic, please vote for it over on TWC proper. It really does make a difference.

Am I mistaken, or is there a drastic change in graphic style in the last pages?

    • No you’ve got it. Chapter 4 is done by different artists in purposefully different styles.

  • Excellent. The change in styles really help with the ‘feel’ and story telling

  • FarSeeker8 .

I know Mandarin (well, tourist version that is: bu hao). Nice.

    • Just wanted to add a little bit of foreign language flavor without full on requiring full translations.

      • FarSeeker8 .

Are my posts appearing twice to you? Disqus appears to show that they are.

        • I don’t think so?

          • FarSeeker8 .

            Apologies if they are.
            (Never mind if they aren’t.)

  • Citrus Reaper

Awww yeah. This is getting real good.

  • The Occupant

I’m getting a Mike Magnola feel with this art.
