Chapter 4: Page 9 - The Monastery

Wow, May already. And the last page of this sequence. Time sure flies!

Since it’s the start of a new month, the vote totals at TWC have reset, so please, give us a vote, and help us stay in the Top 100 :D

Also, don’t forget to check out our Patreon for fun bonus goodies. We’re at like $60 a month right now. If we get to $100, we can pay Seba to make an extra wallpaper/poster every month :D

I have a very difficult challenge for you all on this page. Can you figure out what Tibetan location inspired this monastery? I’ll give you one hint, it isn’t a monastery right now, but it is a pretty cool site in Tibet.

Since this is a hard one, how about 5000 MCs? Future hints will diminish the prize ;)

EDIT: Forgot to thank Matias again for working on this sweet sequence with us. Maybe we’ll get him to work with us more in the future :D

  • NickDA

    Such an amazing tree!

    • Are you trying to give a subtle hint? That’s totally cheating. -500 MCs for you :P

Be patients and let others play ;)

  • Jason Clayton

Would it happen to be Ta Prohm (within the Angkor Wat Temple)?

    • As cool as that is, that is not the source of inspiration. A little too far east ;)

      • Jason Clayton

If i am reading the WIP map correctly, I assume that the mark “1” is the home. Next would guess that Tenzin and his sister ran for a while putting them at mark “2” Near the Nyingchi. One of the monasteries there is The Lamaling Monastery, which has a large tree in the front, nowhere near as large of magnificent as the one in this page, but a large tree none the less.

        • Ohoho, nice logical train of thought. Very, very close. I’ll reiterate my hint from the post: it’s not a monastery right now. And continue on the same visual thoughts ;)

          • Jason Clayton

Soooo….. I was reading the map correctly

          • …Maybe… ;)

          • Jason Clayton

I’m assuming Google earth is lying to me because i found the location on the WIP map and all i can find is a possible dirt road leading to a clearing in the trees with nothing there

          • Hehe. Yeah, that’s probably more of me lying than google. I wasn’t THAT specific in my placement.

Hint, my wife only had to google 3 normal, descriptive words, and it was the 2nd search result.

          • Jason Clayton

That’s just about as much of a hint as “It’s in Tibet”

          • Well you’re close enough that you’ll get the points, unless someone else figures out what feature/location/thing is the direct inspiration. It has it’s own wikipedia page and everything :)

          • And now that I’ve actually found out EXACTLY where to place the marker, moving it there would give it away :D

  • Neil Kapit

I want to go there, regardless of where it is in real life. The artistic rendering here is beautiful

    • Yup. Matias did a great job. Next week you can see how Nico portrays it :)

  • Well, in truth, the architecture is obviously Tibetan-inspired. The Tibet-Nepal-Bhutan regional chain is where this kind of stuff comes up.

  • Delta-v

    Ah, sanctuary, one would hope.

  • Jason Clayton

Its kinda weird how we are talking about all monestaries and my brother just so happens to buy a naginata (staff with a blade on the end). Kinda like what shaolin monks sometimes use.

  • NickDA

    Hint time…. “KING”… (1/3)

  • Jason Clayton

Is it the King Cypress outside of Bayi, Nyingchi

    • DING DING DING! We have a winner! And you only needed one hint, so you only lose a little bit of points ;) I’ll give you 4000 MCs :D

      • Jason Clayton

This bothers me because i looked at it so many times, but non of the images would say where it was and mostly only showed the trunk of the tree

        • Sorry! That’s why I set it at 5000 MCs, since I knew it would be hard. Besides, you will get many thousands when you finish the 3D model :D

          • Jason Clayton

Speaking of which, the dean on my college is an idiot. He brought the printer to its new home(new addition is being built) and they hadn’t supplied quite enough power and broke the printer. The cooler didn’t have enough power to work properly, so it overheated and some wired got singed, so now they have to replace it.

  • Marisa Brenizer

    Now that is a TREE.

  • smurfton

Cool look for the tree there. Almost looks like you have trees growing put of planters hidden in the branches.
