Chapter 7: Page 12 - Oculus Plan

Posted by / in Comic / 48 comments

Happy Monday, all!

Loved the amount of discussion and theorizing on the previous page! For those of you who just feel like chatting, or having discussions longer and deeper than Disqus is set up for, don’t forget that we DO have a forum (link in the top menu). You should be able to create a login and then create threads in the boards I’ve already set up. If we can get people to start using the forum as a forum, it will be easier to start another forum GAME in the future ;)

Anyways, here we get to read President Smith’s counter proposal. Thoughts?

EDIT: Hey look, Adriano made a fan art :D

  • Adriano

My thougths is that I don’t like him. He may have reason, Minerva should open herself to othrr “nations” and be more friendly. It should educate other countries to be like itself.
But Aegis Lieutenant is so pretty I’d agree to Sifo’s plan xD
Oh, for Matt and the others, I have finishdd the fanart. Hope you’ll enjoy it ^^

  • Delta-v

“If we appease those who confront us, if we give them what they want, we will have peace in our time. It works so well every time it’s tried”.

The Sons of Mohammed like the way this mor….. ah man thinks. :)

    • Honza Prchal

You totally anticipated my point. Great minds think alike … and so do ours.
Chancellor Palpatine’s (sorry) suggestion is not even good negotiating strategy in non-violent civil suits. Threaten first THEN offer the win-win. If they’re coordinated and all attacking, then they think they might get everything at once, AND the concatenation of enemies have proven that they actually seem to like butchering civilians.

They might settle for nothing unreasonable, but only once you make the costs clear to them … perhaps, sadly, by making them get a first taste. Also, by crippling one’s opponents seriatem and where they are bordered by other opposing forces, you can disrupt the coalition by either making those weakened attractive enough targets to be swallowed up by their neighbors OR so weakened that they anticipate that problem and drop out of the fight or even ally with you. Tac nukes seem a truly excellent way to do that, especially where one’s enemies are densely concentrated and deployed in a predictable pattern.

      • DrCrazy102

cough, sons of Mohammed are gonna get nuked using your strategy, cough
I think Delta-V may hate your strategy due to previous relations Xp

  • TheRealRazgriz

Shit, well im caught up. Always makes me kinda sad. The pin (and also a bit of his robes, how they have cross sections) reminds me of Osiris from Destiny. http://www.destinygamewiki.com/images/d/d9/Sun_of_osiris_icon1.jpg

    • Getting caught up after an archive binge is always sad, but now you get to talk with the other readers, and read the Extras?

Nice find! That looks pretty cool.

    • NickDA

Yeah, they totally copied us :D… or rather, we both copied the same greek/roman/Egyptian stuff :D

Do you play Destiny on PS4? If so we should play together :D

      • TheRealRazgriz

I am an Xbox One player myself unfortunately :C I would love to play with you guys. You seem like stellar people!

        • NickDA

I will have to forgive you then for being on the wrong platform… :D And yeah, it would be fun to make a DemonArchives Clan of some sorts… but thus far I think you and I are the only ones who play.

          • TheRealRazgriz

If you build it they will come! There may be more out there, you just didn’t know since no one has mentioned it yet.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

Ah, I have a feeling this Smith guy is a traitor.
Perhaps even the guy that was talking to Konstantin…

    • Amberlight

He is not a traitor. He is doing it for the good of all Minerva. Unfortunately, for that to come to be he needs to have all the power. And to that end Aegis must be destroyed.
But it is for the greater good in the end.

      • Both solid theories. ;)

        • Vicont

Is this president guy says that his military was doing bad things, and he was doing nothing? Cause I see that he confesses, that this is somehow aegis fault and, by definition of presidensy, his.

Maybe he is right about militarism (not enough info about setting and this all may be sudden plot twist story with bad technocracy dominating poor peole, why not), but it doesn’t seem very probably to me.

And HE HADN’T READ THE REPORT >:( I’m not enough humanitarian idealistic moro… politician to forgive it.

So yeagh, my bet he is power-hungry bast**d, not giving s**t about anything but power.

          • Oculus and Aegis are run independently, so President Smith is not in charge of Aegis’ military, Commander Kubek is. President Smith is just in charge of Oculus.

The 3 of them here together (the lady is the Dean of Glaucus) together are in charge of Minerva.

          • Hornet

I want to smack the crap out of President Smith, or beat some common sense into him (depending on your point of view) Traitor no, at least not to his everybody kiss and cuddle mentality. To the people of Minerva, when the dust settles, he will be. To many have forgot President Theodore Roosevelt’s advise about speaking softly and carrying big sticks.

@ Vicont, “So yeah, my bet he is power-hungry bast**d, not giving s**t about anything but power.” Won’t he be upset when after he copulates to the invaders he finds he has no position (other than under an invaders desk) or power (if he hasn’t lost his head with the fall)

          • DrCrazy102

But Mr Smith thinks that he is going to have all the power since the “barbarians” are going to be his new BFFs, so maybe power-delusional instead of completely reckless, which would fit into the standard politico role

          • DrCrazy102

They are a *looks at the big Latin word, prays for the best* triumvirate, so three leaders much like a certain ancient empire that kinda collapsed and killed itself. (Who shall reply first and show their learnedness of ancient history?)

  • Adriano

Another one of my thougths is that next Thursday’s page is so much better. Because we see again the Lieutenant Hot Blonde *p*

    • DrCrazy102

At least you’re persistent Adriano Xp

      • Adriano

One of my only qualities xD

        • Delta-v

Oh, heck no, Adriano. You have many fine qualities which we appreciate-as long as you aren’t antagonizing some ethnic group or other, or riling up people of the opposite gender. ^^

          • Adriano

Who did that ? Me ? Noooo

        • DrCrazy102

Let’s not forget that you are good for having a laugh with, especially when your being persistent ;)

  • Xylas Incarnum

He who has not read the report of what is going on, has no right to propose plans of action. actions caused by uninformed and blatant willful ignorance never end well. So put a sock in it Smith.

    • Smith: *waves hand disminssingly* “Bah, I have aides for that.”

      • Xylas Incarnum

*Slaps Smith upside the head with a rolled up newspaper/equivalent* Never trust the reading of important information to others, their retelling will more often than not be inaccurate in some key details by accident if not on purpose. One also can’t make proper plans without knowing the information directly from the source material. Second hand is acceptable, third hand is rarely, fourth, never. First hand is a coin flip between a holy grail and something that needs to be processed to be second hand for it to be completely useful.

        • NickDA

Had to read that last bit a few times… but then it clicked and I liked the clarification on the dangers/coin flip inherent in first hand.

          • Xylas Incarnum

Yeah, first hand entirely depends on the survivors of an event telling it. Various forms of shock and not being able to see all that happened tend to occur there. Sometimes you get people that are still very composed to know what happened but more oft than not you need to treat them kindly to help them pull themselves back together before you can actually get the story out in full.

        • DrCrazy102

Why can I now see Sifo doing that exact motion to Mr Smith? *laughs at mental image*

          • Xylas Incarnum

I can see it being done with a frying pan but you know… I don’t really like Smith due to this…. idiotic shit he’s trying to pull. He’s got the personality of one of those slimy high ranking noble stereotypes in most fiction that are placed in about medieval era.

5 bucks says that Smith is going to try to appease the other side anyways, but basically screws up everything and is killed due to it.

          • DrCrazy102

I’ll pas on the bet since we’d need someone to bet that Smith actually succeeds X)

That poor frying pan, now it has a Smith-shaped dent in it :'( Gonna have to hit Smith with a mirrored shot to get pan to smooth out again XD

          • Xylas Incarnum

Well, succeeds or turns out not to actually be what he seems at this point.
That being a, probably, intelligent guy with his head currently stuck up his ass.

          • DrCrazy102

oh, he’s smart since he’s managed to get to President of the Diplomatic Corps, I mean, Oculus. But I don’t think anyone would bet That he tries and wins or that he doesn’t try at all

          • Xylas Incarnum

You’re also forgetting the whole “tries and fails” option.

  • Rawles Roberts III

I detect that a Rift will soon be caused by Oculus…. (oh come on, I had to with all of the VR/AR floating around this comic)

  • I’d be more inclined to trust his diplomatic skills if he actually had the diplomatic courtesy to at least read the report the other people put in the time and effort to send.

    • Hornet

Since when has that stopped a politician from speaking or even voting??? Course being that most legislation is written in legaleze no one can understand it any way. Does the word state refer to the “states” or the “nation state”???

  • DrCrazy102

    Ohhh, the claws are out!
This is about to get very heated in that boardroom

  • DeNitro

Gaww,, figures Mr. Brownsuit is titled President,, I called it, cookies and guided tours to the invaders.. One wonders if spineless’s plan includes a premade white flag, or he prefers to force the Commander to surrender his underwear for it’s creation. Where is that trebuchet? Have something really stinky to put downrange! ;-)

    • Rawles Roberts III

Good idea on the Trebuchet, you get good distance with the skinny ones!

  • Neil Kapit

It’s not entirely unreasonable to speculate that the military branch of Minerva might have a role in escalating a military conflict

    • DrCrazy102

You’re right, it isn’t unreasonable for military to want more conflict to increase their budgets, but it is unreasonable for the /head/ of the /political corps/ to completely disregard a report and make very stereotypical assumptions about the actions contained within, as well as future actions. However effective and probably accurate said statements may be ;)
Also, referring to my first sentence, I personally get the impression that Aegis is about getting things to “cool down”, so to speak, so that Minerva has more available resources. But that’s an ideal TDA scenario, and we know those don’t happen *cough, Dan and Seba (I assume, correct me if I’m wrong) are not forgiven for Jacquelyn, cough* Xp

  • Chris Kotthoff

So, Minerva is ruled by three parties… that don’t seem to respect each other… this would be a bad combination before Smith started acting like a ass while ignoring the fact people are dying. I’m not sure if Smith is ‘the” villain of our story but he is defiantly a arrogant ass setting himself up to be a victim of a military coupe.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

Way back in chapter 1, glaucus went with Oculus Intel.
Then mysteriously, the Oculus satellites were “unavailable”.
    http://demonarchives.com/chapter-1-page-10-pep-talk-time/

  • Citrus Reaper

I dislike this Oculus jerk already.

  • Pemigewasset ex pat

Frakking politicians, specialists in spesciousness, fallaciousness & obfuscation for their short term gain, hang the long term consequences! Hasn’t even read the bloody report?! If he ain’t a traitor outright, he’s a self important, self absorbed smeghead too immersed in his own scheming & machinations to see what’s really happening.
