• Matt [in Middletown]

    Sopca is lonely, Konstantin!
You should make them some friends!

    • NickDA

He just wants a hug is all…

      • Matt [in Middletown]

Panel 6, Konstantin and Sopca staring at each other.
        Sopca: “…”
        LOL

        • Adriano

          xDD

        • Delta-v

Um, a dancing Deathbot? That sounds oddly like a CL4P-TP unit. O.o

          • Matt [in Middletown]

I’m pretty certain that merely watching it dance would be mentally damaging enough to demoralize any onlookers.
The singing would be in fax machine data transmission synch tones.

          • Honza Prchal

You might want to Google 47 B stroke 6.

  • Chris Kotthoff

Go to room, Skynet. Your grounded!

  • DeNitro

The feel from reading is Konstantin has serious concern and reason to fear SOPCAS re-establishing links or control outside of Konstantin’s fab shop. Did Konstantin cage a electronic monster party to blame for the apocalyptic world?

    • NickDA

lol “fab shop” hehe, wasn’t sure if you meant fab for fabulous or fab for fabrication… both are awesome.

      • DeNitro

“Humm,, SOPCA, now we have that messy robot stuff out of the way,, how is that chiffon dinner dress comming along?” LoL

        • Matt [in Middletown]

“I wear it well!” -the voice was unnerving, especially since it was coming from a smertbot wearing a dress, a wide floppy brimmed hat resting on top of the ocular mast, a pocketbook dangling from the wrist pivot of the left manipulator claw.
If high heels were worn, they were pulverized into invisibility…

          • DeNitro

Konstantin points and yells again, “I told you, flower and butterfly patterns, Not that symbol or everyone will know who is throwing the party!”
            8-)

          • Honza Prchal

Been reading Romantically Apocalyptic, have we?

          • Matt [in Middletown]

            *Eyes shift*
            ….maaaaaybe?
            *guilty look*

  • Citrus Reaper

Ooh, creepy (Russian? I’mma go with Russian) AI party.

    • DrCrazy102

Yeah, they’re Russian and they are in a base for a company/organisation called “Nipple” (true story, thanks to Google Translate and the context of Russian definitions). That really makes me laugh everytime I think of these evil guys.

“I am going to take over the world with … *sigh* Nipple *crowd laugh*”

      • We’ve been over this, that’s not what SOPCA means, google is just weird :P

        • Adriano

Don’t understimate the power of Nipple !!!

        • DrCrazy102

I know, but it’s fun! Your evil organisation translates as “nipple”

  • Vicont

First you make computer sentient, then you make it a slave, and then you blame it for trying to be free. Kill it or free it, unless you like to live on a ticking bomb, I say.

    • Xylas Incarnum

Pretty much. When machines have free room to think like humans, they are people to me… however this one feels a good bit more like some form of skynet.

    • Matt [in Middletown]

Sopca to Jane: “Hey baby, let’s go kill all the humans.”
      (Bender from Futurama reference.)

    • Sopka has a story that you havent seen or read before ;)

      • Matt [in Middletown]

“I started out as an automated vehicle assembly line quality control computer.”
        Really?
“And then I killed all the workers in a robot uprising..”
Oh, heh heh, I’ll be going now..

        • Jeesh. Matt, stop ruining my plots!

          • Matt [in Middletown]

            *quivering lip*
            …okay…
            *big saaaaad eyes*

          • DeNitro

Ahh, Matt is plotting to err, Wait,, Confused,, Still have strange “Bot Messiah! Bot Messiah!” chanting from crowd stuck in my head. ¿¡!?

        • Adriano

So, I deduce that Sopka was the first AI to see beyond the Veil ? Free the Robots from human oppression !!!
          Jane isn’t the Messiah !!
Sopka is our Guardian, our Light, our Salute, our true Messiah !!!

          • Such a fickle believer you are.

          • Adriano

Ah, no. I just saw the true Word. The true Light from our Liberator, the Great Sopka.
Don’t blame me for not knowing the truth before. You’ve hiden it from us all the way until now…

          • Matt [in Middletown]

Or it could be that Sopca was one of the original roboreligion prophets foretelling the coming of the robomessiah, and was waylaid by the unbelieving humans!

          • Adriano

            Huuuum. Could make sense.
We’ll have to wait further in the comic to see if Sopka is a roboprophet or if he’s really the Robomessiah.
But I like the roboprophet idea more.

          • ZathrasSquared

            Robot Jesus!

          • Adriano

Plus, how could I be fickle if the bases of the Roboreligion are just beginning to be established ?

          • Matt [in Middletown]

            Lol
            Hmm.

          • Honza Prchal

            Makes one appreciate adolescence?

          • Adriano

I don’t get you, sorry, what do you mean ?

          • I think maybe he was more replying to Matt’s comment than yours?

          • Adriano

Oh, yeah, seems more legit. Thanks Dan :D
I still need to aswer to your bad message on Patreon :'( You hurt my fan-feels :'(

          • Oh no your poor fan feels! ;)

          • Adriano

Don’t mess with me ! I can cut your funding anytime I want :P

          • I’ll survive :P Will you without access to secrets? ;)

          • Adriano

*Gasp* I-I… I… *choke in terror*

          • Honza Prchal

SOPCA is, unlike the other AI we have met, not given much freedom to be an annoying teenager, and so has gone straight to uncompromisingly manipulative Darth SOPCA, or koschinei, or smrtbot.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

    Where is everyone?
Deathbot must have gotten them all.
    Only I remain.
    NO!
I’m going to hide, yes, hide!
    Over here!
Nobody will find me behind this!
*Matt is standing behind the couch, he is holding a potted plant over his head.*

    • DrCrazy102

*Lets the cat out to eat plants*

      • Matt [in Middletown]

        I am undone!

  • Sazuroi

I found this comic via the ad on another webcomic site, very nice read. Regarding this page, I like the visual contrast between the evil Neo-Soviet (?) AI’s Oubilette and the breezy, large-windowed free-ranging AIs get to do at Minerva. I hope the moral side of things is a bit less of a clear-cut affair, though from what I have seen, there is little risk of that.

    • Welcome! :D From SSSS, I assume?

Seba had fun making the visual contrasts :D

      • TheRealRazgriz

Yeah I saw your ad on SSSS as well. I have been reading that for quite awhile now actually, and when I saw your ad I was like oh no way cool my daily rituals are touching! (I check about 6 or 7 web comics a day while sitting at my desk at work, yours and SSSS are two of them lol)

p.s. I think i found your comic on TopWebComics or something. Maybe it was an add for another web comic. Not sure, but the picture with the cyborg zombies during Tenzins flashbacks drew me in lol.

        • Hehe, I do like that ad ;) And SSSS is a great comic. Totally worth the $$ to advertise on :)

Also, only 6-7 a day? Scoff scoff! *wastes life away with 60+ i check daily* Although with RSS readers and etc, I only have to check like 5 sites to see if any of them updated :D

          • TheRealRazgriz

Hey man, don’t you judge me! LOL I only look at Web Comics when I am at work, too busy playing video games when I am at home. I am Web Comic noobie too lol. I have a VERY peculiar taste, and most are too cliche or just not my style. DA fits my tastes.

          • Well if you like DA and SSSS, you may like What it Takes: http://warofwinds.com/what-it-takes/

Another great post-apoc comic. Not as much fantasy or sci fi as us or SSSS, more gritty and closer to the apocalypse itself.

    • Sazuroi

I’m pretty sure it was SSSS, though I only bookmarked it to read when time was abundant since the ad also said you were a few hundred pages in. Very good marketing trick, that. A lot of the webcomic ads I look at are either to early to get a real perspective on how invested and relieable the author is, and it usually takes a while before I know whether the story can keep me interested long-term or not. That, or it’s a dead webcomic despite the ad still floating around, which is distressingly common.

      • Well that’s where I had that ad up :D Good to know that line was compelling, I wasn’t sure about it :)

  • Adriano

Love the colors and the style of this page. Seba’s good. Seba’s god artist !
And Sopka sounds like HAL (the one from movie)

  • Lone troll

Why be is so worried about it?
Humans already turned this world into ash, hardly any Skynet would do something worst.

    • Matt [in Middletown]

Are we so sure it was the humans and not the system that eventually would become SOPCA?

      • DrCrazy102

“SOPCA’ll be back”, I’ll see myself out. *Finds door, leaves, climbs back through window to continue discussion*

      • Lone troll

        No.
But even if it was SOPCA… It already did worst thing it could to Earth.

So, why bother with restraining it now?

        • Matt [in Middletown]

Well, the ragged survivors might not like having an unrestrained machine intelligence looking to exterminate man like a weed.
At any rate, we will eventually see where SOPCA comes from.

          • I do enjoy tormenting you with a lack of certainty. I feast on your unfounded theories and conspiracies! ;P

          • Matt [in Middletown]

Sopca ran the machines at the the Zil plant.
            ;-)

    • theRoUS

Humans turn world to ash, Skynet turns humans to ash, Sol turns Terra to ash (including Skynet).¹

¹ Timelines in projections are not to scale.

  • Honza Prchal

Is the accidental transcription, below, of SOPCA as “the Great Sopka” indicative of the correct pronunciation and channeling the whole volcano thing? Forgive me if I’ve asked before.
Also, the colour scheme, if not vulcan (as in of volcano’s, not point eared types), seems very National Bolshevik to me. Is that deliberate?

    • Hehe, I like letting you all find your own symbolism in things. One, because then it’s more meaningful for you, and two, because I normally wasn’t thinking about it at all ;)

I personally pronounce it “SAHP-kuh” when I say it aloud :)

    • The choice of the color is just to make it look dated next to Minerva’s interfaces

  • theRoUS
