The electronic murmur of untold devout nano chip followers, each a flock within a flock following thier very own copy of the Mini Bot Messiah to exterminate life… Who needs zombies with that to ruin a good nights sleep? 😨

        • Oooh it actually translates! Bravo, Matt.

          • Matt [in Middletown]

I did somewhat cheat on it.

          • Probably the same way I cheated to translate it ;)

          • Matt [in Middletown]

            ;-)
How many people will check it out?

          • DrCrazy102

            I did!
I’m also now scared for if TDA ever actually becomes real, but you know, details ;p

      • Jack Crow

I got “don’t let SOPKA free” from Internet connections :-p Didn’t use Patreon, honest, but I didn’t translate it myself either..

            “Yes, Yes,
            but the truth is,
the reward is finding crazy people like me!”

          • DrCrazy102

No worries, I keep Google Translate as an open tab when I check TDA, though I got:
            Yes Yes,
            but the truth is,
remuneration is crazy people like me!

Google, why have you failed me? (It did at least offer “reward” as a possible suggestion instead of remuneration)

And yes, the reward is the interactions.

          • DeNitro

Not surprised, I used it to translate my English into something I’d bet a Russian had to read more than once to understand.
I did translate back to English after, Google tested it exactly for me, but it’s as fickle as a 13 year old girl in a room full of older boys. Bing also nailed it, but Systran, Promt, and Reverso reminded me why we take “English” as a class requirement at all levels of schooling. 😳

          • DrCrazy102

“fickle as a 13 yr old girl in a room full of older boys” = snort+snigger for rest of day! That is unfortunately too true.
So Bing is better, not too surprised since Microsoft has been in the language business for longer. I have never heard of the others but I can only wonder how bad they are at Engrish *shudders*

        • Matt [in Middletown]

          Не кормить Мэтт морковь после!”

          • DrCrazy102

That just does not Google Translate properly. Came out as:

“Do not feed the carrots after Matt!”

            Though still suitably funny

          • Matt [in Middletown]

That’s because it kept chopping off a word upon copying.
            Oh well.
Не кормить Мэтт морковь после полуночи…

      • Matt [in Middletown]

Penalty ten yards, loss of first down, and opposing team is now switched out with special team consisting of Deathbot?

  • Best WebComics

Thanks for the mention! Keep doing the awesome work that you do!

  • DrCrazy102

Well, now we know why he keeps a desk drawer full of USBs … so he can break them and stop SOPCA from spreading its virus!
    *Starts attempts at translation*

    • DrCrazy102

Oh yeah, here’s what Google thinks the spelling is: Не Выпускай Сопку На свободу
I had to use a Wiki image to find that “g”

    • Huh, I’m surpised you didn’t choose to interpret it as “Don’t free the nipple.” :P

      • DrCrazy102

I was sorely tempted but I felt like I should be more mature than that, though I did snigger just then, so *shrug*. But if that is what you want ;p

      • Dusty Coyote

Oh. This was done. I’ll go up and remove mine.

  • Honza Prchal

“Don’t let out SOPCA into freedom” is literal and “don’t free SOPCA” or “Don’t let SOPKA slip the leash” (so much more refined!) is how I’d translate it.
I took only a year of Russian in school, but grew up hearing Czech and Magyar-Jewish Slovak, so I may not qualify for anything given the linguistic affinity.

    • It’s ok. MCs are mostly imaginary anyways. Just don’t tell anyone ;P

  • Honza Prchal

Nye gavarim, tavarischi. Sluzhim Sovietskim Sayuzu! or not.

  • Vicont

It should be noted, that paper is written for someone. Like “(reader), do not let SOPKA out”, not “SOPKA should not be let out”. Maybe important because it has high probability that paper was written not for writer, but for either someone else or for anyone who gets into room.

    • This makes me very happy that I have @disqus_8XKHAw4roh:disqus to provide us with Russian that is actually correct. I would never get nuances like that across using some online translator program :D

      • DeNitro

Happy you have a “Native Speaker” to provide a language. Have tortured friends worldwide for decades with my “Lazy English.” All online translators have weakness, require proper form, useage, and syntax. Everything I write, machine translators just seem to randomly spit out that same number of words in other language in futile attempt at a result.

        • Honza Prchal

There at least used to be a great website called “Engrish” about that phenomenon.
For a while after the counter-revolution, Czechs used Germanists and even Germans to do our translations into English. It was more irritating than amusing to those of us who were bilingual.

      • Dusty Coyote

Removed because I’m slow and this comment was done elsewhere

      • Xylas Incarnum

for the record, a small translation box would probably also help a bit for readers who do not know Russian.. well written anyways. Though anyone is capable of picking up the odd couple of words of any language they’ve experienced enough.

        • Yeah I can understand that. It was a conscious decision to NOT include a translation on the page (unlike in the prologue), since it was mostly for flavor, and as a way to get people involved in trying to figure out what it means/read the comments.

But as I look over it again, definitely for the printed edition we would want the translation since stopping to look it up would interrupt the reading flow :D

          • Xylas Incarnum

Well for the print version there could be a few pages in the back that say the translated text with panel references and page numbers… Well at least page numbers.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

This song would have worked a couple pages back while Tenzin was out of it.
But I only found it yesterday.
I suspect there may be another page it will fit…I’ll leave it here for Dan and crew to keep on hand.

    • Reminds of some of the music the composer we’re hiring has been making :D

      • Matt [in Middletown]

        Ahh..Excellent.

  • Pfft, typical dad, has to do everything the old-fashioned way. I bet he still faxes his deathbot schematics.

    • DrCrazy102

“SOPKA, damnit! The smoke signals are being pushed away by the wind! Now how will I learn the shut-down code?”

  • Vicont

By the way, how flash-memories get into USB slots? I mean, human guy would not trust them anyway, WHO plugs them in?!

    • NickDA

Maybe it actually contains like the boot software and the CAD stuff… for him to bring information to SOPCA, not for SOPCA to sent it out.

    • I think Konstantin uses the flash drives to take all the data from the bots to SOPKA ( wich would be a lot) and destroys it afterwards because he doesnt trust that a format would erase anything that Sopka put there

      • Vicont

Well, such obvious explanation, damn. Foiled by logic again/

        • ZathrasSquared

Single-use drives are apparently pretty common in Government/military and big-end-of-town commercial enterprises to prevent espionage. No surprise Konstantin has adopted the same approach.

  • theRoUS

SOPKA? But the Cyrillic says SOPKOO..

    • On the note? That might be some sort of Russian “case” thing Amberlight was telling me about some time.

  • Tahaklamahakahn

    Such a Skynet moment.

  • sssso.. I never updatid this page…

  • Henrik Svantesson

I find this AI less intimidating than Jane - one of them have convinced their controllers to give them a wifi connection, a mobile bot that can plug into the political leaders’ conversations, and is generally given free reign.

The other one is clumsily trying to sneak past communication components in robot design plans while whining that he’s ever so loyal.

Which one of these two could take over society most effortlessly? My money is definitely on the first one.
