Chapter 9: Page 13 - Leap Day

Heyo!

So the internet at my work is down, so even though Seba is almost done with the colors, if I don’t post something now, you won’t see anything until this evening. So, enjoy these inks. I’ll post the colors in the evening.

Also, I couldn’t resist the pun-title XD

Also also, we’ve apparently grown large enough to sometimes have commenters be mean to each other. Don’t. I’ll block you. Behave :P

EDIT: And now with color :)

  • Somebody has to say it: ouch! ;)

  • Adriano

    Let’s break some faces !

(Did I imply in the being mean at each other ? I hope not !)

    • Did you get blocked? ;)

      • Adriano

        I’m still blocked at my 15, yes ! :P

        • You commented this twice, and I don’t know what either mean.

          • Adriano

It means I’m still mentally stuck at my 15 years old. When I was a youngling. Is it clearer ?

Sorry for the double post, must have been some cache issue.

          • Ah, I get you know, but no, that didn’t come across before ;P

          • Adriano

(sorry I don’t get it damn my english) (“that didn’t come across before” what? can u explain?)

          • The meaning did not come across. As in, it didn’t make sense. I didn’t understand.

          • Adriano

Oh okay. Then now we’re good? I hope we’re good.

          • We’re good :P

          • Adriano

            Yay o/
Sorry but tonight my english is bleh

          • DeNitro

Why did you just remind me of this,,
            https://youtu.be/8LXYO1qR3Yg
            :-) LoL

          • Adriano

            Exactly xD

  • Chris
    • I give up trying to edit your comment to make your fancy embeddings work, as I don’t know how Diqus manages it XD

      I like it though :)

      • Chris

No idea either… XD I just hit buttons.

  • Matt [in Middletown]

What if you are mean to yourself?
    / kidding

Hey Ten, you got a third party joining you, look behind you.

  • Ian Brown

    everybody was kung fu fighting!
That armored mech hits like lightning!

    Had too.

  • Amberlight

Wait… Did those swords scratch the armor plate? The one that deflected tank shell? Are they made of adamantium?

    • The tank shell loosened it for them.

    • NickDA

      Just the paint job :D

    • Adriano
    • Sebastián Piriz

As Nick said, just a paint scratch (Tenzin had many before the tanks)

now I give you all a lecture on narration:

On comics you need to exaggerate some things to make sure you readers really understand, its not easy to do it always with so many pages done, but the idea here is that I have to be sure that you get that the edges are touching Tenzin and not missing him by a few centimeters, hence the paint scratches.

back to physics (where I cant give a lecture) I know that materials have different resistance to different things. You can cut a layer of Kevlar by hand but a bullet wont penetrate it when stacked right?

      • Amberlight

I was going by this assumption myself. But hey, nitpicking is becoming a tradition here:P

        • NickDA

One day… our children’s children will look back, and talk of this day with glory…. and then nitpick the hell out of our nitpicking skills :D

        • Bah humbug ;P

    • Ah and Seba said everything I wanted to. It’s all about visual storytelling. How else would you visually convey that their swords landed blows that did essentially no damage? This was a way to show that the blades made contact and didn’t just miss.

  • SlashyTheCow

    Just an afterthought since there’s so much discussion regarding these Melee weapons and their effectiveness;

If they nailed a good blow in one of the incredibly under-armoured joints, it could seriously reduce the effectiveness of his suit. whether the force multiplier making the suit able to support it’s own weight in a combat-effective fashion is bio-mechanical Myomer (Best reference: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Myomer ) or purely mechanical ( e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_exoskeleton ) .
severing myomer fiber or breaking servos/circuits/ so-on-and-so-forth with enough force would render his arm ineffective to him or Jane because of the sheer weight. so the tactic would be to take him down piece by piece, component after component until he can’t actually fight, at least within the suit anymore.

tl:dr; Melee tactics would be to break his suit in weak points so he couldn’t fight. Yeah his armour plating stopped a tank shell, but a melee weapon can target more vulnerable, critical areas with much greater finesse.

    Cheers!

    • I like how you think :)

    • NickDA

We need this guy to review the old crappy Armor science articles :D

      • SlashyTheCow

I’d be definitely keen, i got spare time to do so. I’ll see if there’s anything i can do on the contribution page :)

    • Matt [in Middletown]

Similar to how halberdiers took down armored knights with all the concern of cracking a lobster shell.
