Chapter 12: Page 10 - Alone at Recess

Alright, inks up! And thanks to those who have started following along via Tapastic or Webtoons. Not only do I appreciate the numbers boost, I find it’s actually quite fun going back and reading it again :)

Random idea someone mentioned to me recently: me turning some of the Lore articles and etc into audiobook/podcast type things, or just doing a podcast in general. I know very little of podcasts, but would that be interesting to people? Maybe I could make that a Patreon stretch goal or something.

  • Ian Brown

for some reason that last panel just feels so. . . . sad and alone.

    • Kaiden

It is, really. They’ve really only got each other, and are facing possible permanent separation. I’d feel sad and lonely, too.

I guess there is Angeline, but she’s really “mom” to both of them.

  • Delta-v

That last panel is a fantastic use of negative space to convey emotion.

And to add to that, Tenzin seems to have completed a 180 on his opinion of Jane. Character development overdrive….

    • well, I guess that kind of stuff happens when someone gets literally into your head.

      • Kaiden

Not to mention she saved his life, what, three times now? Going through combat together forms a very intimate bond between people, even, in this case, artificial ones.

      • Matt [in Middletown]

AND they leave a bit of themselves squirreling around in there as well.

  • Amberlight

I wonder if the Oculus guy timed things so well or if the judge is playing along with them.

    • Honza Prchal

That’s fairly normal in court, especially for the defense - we plaintiffs or prosecutors then get it in the neck during their presentations.
It can be an emotional roller-coaster.
Also, Delta-v, I believe that it was always clear that Tenzin liked Jane … he’s just combative and faint with praise unless he needs to buck up people who are being attacked by someone. He’s a protector type, and loyal to his team. Add to that the situation - he knew this was a fight he could not contribute to for the time being, so he actually relaxed.

Is there a map of Minervan cities and maps of the layout of those cities. I would love to see them, plus, you could add tags and locations to them.

    • If you look back to oh Chapter 7 I think, you can see the invasion map which gives an idea. I need to clean up an “official” map.

Did you just send me two replies saying the same thing? It is okay, it happens to the best of us.

        • I blame a computer glitch XD

          • KBoysx1

Don’t lie to us Daniel. The Illuminati/Founders still remain powerful…

      • KBoysx1

Well, school starts in 45 minutes. I better sign off and get ready.

    • Here is a quick layout I just did of the main city, the rest are semi autonomous towns or small bases.

Aegis HQ is the original Minerva bunker, were the organization survived WW3. Then, when they got stronger they built the city and the buildings for the other two branches

  • Kaiden

I would love the lore and/or stories in an audio format! I generally don’t have time to sit down and read (except homework), so I’ve been listening to audiobooks and podcasts instead. They’re great for filling up the mundane work hours!

  • The facial expressions on this page are really good. I can see a lot of emotion in them.

  • Henrik Svantesson

Goddammit Jane, are you not only a fully educated, but one of the most brilliant lawyers the world has ever known? Or have at least memorized the entirety of all laws and previous cases from the archives?

    • Knowledge and capability in a system that doesn’t trust you are two very different things ;)

      • Henrik Svantesson

Oh yes, but no trust in necessary to present an argument, working with what evidence is already available. Seeing as I’m somewhat caught up, I’d recommend contacting a real lawyer or even the legaladvice subreddit, or even the LessWrong forum/subreddit or the Rational subreddit if you wanted to simulate as close a response as an individual that knows the entirety of all laws and past cases might come up with in the circumstances (or use all of these sources, to make sure you get both the rational perspective and the legal one).

And, of course, the extralegal actions someone with access to the entire network might take to affect the process, judge & jury or even the security guards in the courtroom while doing false-flag operations in the name of the conspirators.

        • In this case it was less about knowing the law and more about other reasons to not answer questions or present evidence 😉

          • Henrik Svantesson

I presume the reasons for this are left for the readers to hypothesize until their general game plan is revealed? :P

          • *laughs maniacally*
