Dan, nicely played on re-introducing dialog. 2 words, in the last panel, from a character outside the frame. :)

Looks like the trial is headed by the 3 regents, so I suspect that Tenzin is facing serious charges indeed.

And it looks like Jane has been held incommunicado (in a locked case? that’s one way to prevent “evidence tampering”) leading up to the trial. I wonder if that’s why Kubek insisted on her going to “debrief” immediately on return to Minerva…though if so, that means he anticipated the likelihood of the trial… I wonder what the experience was like for Jane. Did she notice time passing? If so, how did she avoid boredom? (if that’s something she can experience)

Seba: Panels 4 & 5: Sweet! Jane with the affected “waking up” and Rick and Angeline (eye-roll out loud) reacting to her antics from the front row.

And Tenzin is smiling *again*. 3 pages in a row. He’s going to sprain his face if he doesn’t start scowling soon. :)

    • Gotta get SOME smiles out, while he still can…. ;P

Technical question: When Jane’s “core” is in that stand, does the stand provide the sensors for her to see and hear? If not, what sensors does she use to interact with the room? (she’s waving to Tenzin, so she can see him)

And is that stand a special non-networked unit so that AI’s can’t flee the courtroom? (i.e. so the evidence can’t walk out on the court :) )

I wonder how many other trials in Minerva history have featured AI participants. Though I’m now not sure that Jane is a witness, since most trials prevent witnesses from hearing each others’ testimony. The fact that Jane was unboxed now maybe means that she’s a co-defendant rather than a witness. (and that the case was her holding cell)

Speaking about escaping, she can’t “leave” her core. That’s her brain. Messing with the outside systems is another matter though.
I’d imagine she is linked to the room’s cameras to see and hear.

    • Jane’s core is self sufficient, but the stand provides extra RAM and etc, so to speak, connects to whatever sensors/network the meatbags hook up to it.

In this case, she has some room sensors and a holographic display, but yes, no network ;)

  • I love the quick change from her normal appearance to that tough as nails, slick, lawyer look in that second to last panel!

  • Ian Brown

oh. they broke the silence with text boxes.

that was what, 3-4 pages without text bubbles?
and we leave the silence to angry stone faced bureaucrats entering the room. oh dear.

I really like Jane in this page. From the (clearly affected) yawn to the outfit change.

Also, I know there’s a different fashion sense in Minerva, but that has gotta be the most casually-dressed court scene I’ve ever seen.

    • Heh, a lot of the “rubes” didn’t feel like dressing up ;)

  • Adriano

    I like Glaucus’ director’s dress

  • I’m loving the silent conversation here.

“Yes, I get it, you’re good at imitating human behavior, but you don’t even have lungs, knock it off Jane.”
“Killjoy. How ’bout this ‘do? Stuffy enough for ya?”
“Don’t you back-sass me in court, young lady.”
