I’m curious what function the Regents have in this proceeding. Obviously not running the trial. Are they the jury? Based on their seating, they are participants in the process, and not just there to witness. (and how much will the Dean of Glaucus be able to resist doing research on her tablet while the proceedings are going on?)

Thinking back to the (most excellent) Essence of Nightshade story, I don’t recall a judge being present in the scene where the Regents were discussing guilt/sentencing with Okane - and that was a formal courtroom scene, so the current setup is different from that precedent. Maybe changes were made in procedure during the interval?

Seba: The 2 Aegis guys way in the back look like they are disdainful of the proceedings, and have no interest in standing anywhere near the Oculus guard at the door. Is that what you were going for?

    • yes sir. nothing relevant just the mood of the people

Is that why someone put so little space behind Kubek’s and Smith’s chairs? Hoping someone will slide back and take a tumble? :)

        • Adriano

          they’re on edge
          literally on edge

        • haha, yes, they could have a bit more of space

FFS, Oculus, charging the disabled war hero and combat veteran with war crimes and treason? How could this go wrong? Oh, right, your entire military in all likelihood hating you, well, more than before.

    • I think you’ll like the Defense’s opening arguments on Monday XD

  • Ian Brown

insubordination ,sure. he’ll probably admit that one. all the others though.
    load of horse crap.

    • Kaiden

Gotta second this. Insubordinate is a no-brainer. But, really? How on earth do they evidence of any of the other charges? Unless Oculus wants to finally claim ownership of the Deathbots.

  • Kaiden

Just a minor note, but shouldn’t there be steps to the witness stand as well? It’d be odd if the witnesses had to walk behind everyone else including the judge.

    • Probably. We’re working off collective memory and pictures found online, since I don’t think either of us have much experience being on a witness stand ;)

Don’t forget the affimative defense of necessity and, especially to treason - unclean hands.
The Regents look like European style investigative judges (no juries). It’s not a good system.

  • Thanks for the kind words and the promo =) I didn’t talk to Dan about this, so I don’t know if this is what he had in mind, but the trial in Essence of Nightshade did prove that the Regents could have disastrous conflicts of interest when it comes to sentencing. That, plus the fact that one regent committed suicide and one bailed on Minerva in the wake of Okane’s trial suggests that the regents should probably leave the judging to a neutral party, lest the entire organization implode again.
